If you are a parent whose child needs surgery, it is normal to feel anxious and unsure about what to expect. Designed by a practicing pediatric surgeon, this app allows you and your child to explore the operating room environment at your own pace. You can learn about the process of preparing for an operation, meet the people that work there and learn what to expect in the recovery room and at home. Having a child undergo surgery is never easy; this app is designed to make it a little bit easier.

Features:

- “Child view” with 5 easy-to-use scenes featuring interactive characters and equipment;
- “Parent View” providing tips and information every parent should know prior to the date of surgery;
- Your child’s picture can be embedded within the app for a personalized experience;
- Embedded videos by a practicing pediatric surgeon provide additional information about what to expect.
- French and English versions available (loads automatically depending on iPad language settings)

Vision:

The stated mission of the Montreal Children’s Hospital Division of Pediatric General Surgery is to provide state-of-the-art, evidence-based surgical care to children in a friendly, compassionate, and patient and family-centered environment. The app ”My First Surgery‟ was created through a seed grant through the McGill Center for Bioinformatics as a partnership between Dr. Robert Baird (pediatric surgeon at the Montreal Children’s) and Stradigi (digital development company).

The My First Surgery family would like to keep the information contained within this app accessible to everyone, and to always remain free. If you would like to support this initiative, visit our website www.myfirstsurgery.com
We are very grateful for your help.
